About SWQR Accreditation

THE AIM OF THE SIGNING LIGHTING & GUARDING TRAINING COURSE:
To provide training and instruction to candidates on the correct and legally abiding use of road signage, lighting and guarding equipment.

THE COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Upon completion of the Signing Lighting & Guarding Training Course candidates will be able to define the various types of road works and traffic control measures, as well as erect and dismantle basic road works / signage. They will gain knowledge relating to the requirements of the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
All personnel who are required to work within activities based in or around a public highway.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates do not require any previous experience but must be able to certify that they are physically fit and have no medical conditions that might prevent them from attending this course. Delegates should be able to write and speak in English. Safety equipment will be supplied by your trainer.

COURSE SUMMARY:
Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations / exercises, all of which are highlighted by the use of Video Presentations covering.

Review of the codes of practice
Drawing site plans
Notices required by Local Authorities
Site surveys
Code of Practice – safety at Street Works and Road Works
An introduction to the use of vehicle actuated portable traffic signals
Practical – Signing, Lighting and Guarding.

CERTIFICATION:
Card & Certificate of Competence, valid for 3 years before renewal. Synergy & SWQR Accreditation option.

About SWQR Accreditation

SWQR SWQR accredited training courses. The SWQR is authorised by the UK Government Transport Departments to maintain the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR). Under the New Roads and Street Works Act, 1991 (NRSWA), candidates with a certificate from an Awarding Organisation can be issued with an SWQR card. SWQR work with hundreds of Centres to issue over 50,000 ID cards a year for the UK with responsibilities including: Quality assurance of the validity of Candidate claims against Awarding Organisation results, Supporting Candidates to register, renew or update their SWQR ID card, Guiding Awarding Organisations and Centres who wish to gain approval to offer qualifications, Maintaining close links with Centres, Awarding Organisations and industry representatives, Working with authorities to carry out on-site inspections to ensure Candidates are on the SWQR, hold a valid ID card and have appropriate qualifications.
